Ten Tips For Super Tuesday

Remember what the expectations were going into today's voting. Super Tuesday was supposed to "seal the deal" for Democrat Clinton. Barely a week ago, she was still far ahead in the polls nationally and in most of the key Super Tuesday states except Obama's Illinois. If Clinton does not finish the day at least marginally ahead of Obama in key states won and delegates totals, it'll be a setback for the former First Lady. Similarly, McCain has been pegged as the Republican to beat. If his chief rival, Romney, wins more key states - especially California, where he has been surging in late polling - and more delegates, McCain's standing will suffer. Conservative commentator Pat Buchanan is right when he says that, "If Romney wins California, it's the comeback story of the night."

Completing the home theater

For effect in the room we have got these chairs a little bit nicer than the ones I remember in the theaters but they are upholstered in the same type of material and fabric that we had. We also added brass rails and the faux painting on the walls to help again create this real theater feel.

Quik Pod offers self-portraits, made from within arm's reach

Heather Hill's column on consumer trends, gadgets and useful news appears each Tuesday in The Sun. Her daily online column can be found at www.lowellsun.com under the heading "Heather Help Us."

We've all done it. Rather than ask a stranger to take your photo, you extend your arm as far out in front of you as possible, lean back and smile — and hope you get the appropriate background and faces within the frame.

It can make for a goofy shot. And unless you don't mind pictures that are mostly forehead or double chin, the results are usually rather unflattering. But thanks to a handy new gizmo called Quik Pod, decent self-portraits are within arm's reach.

A classic example of "Why didn't anyone think of this before," Quik Pod is a slim, telescoping device that serves as an extension of your arm, thus putting an end to those too-close closeups.

Flushed with shame at Britain

We now live in a violent, disrespectful society where social standards have ceased to exist. Who hasnt seen a bunch of drunks stagger from their local pub and start fighting? Who hasnt had some idiot screaming abuse at them for driving with appropriate care (ie obeying the speed limit) and who hasnt been on the wrong end of some little yob hurling profanities. Yes of course England still has so much to offer but why do we now choose to accept all the wrong instead of actually doing something about it?

Takahashi: Dress this cell phone according to mood

Dov Moran has a bright idea for the coming age where fashion and electronics will become intertwined. When you want a new look for an MP3 music player, put a new skin on it. If you want your phone to play cool videos, give it a jacket. And when you want to turn that phone into an alarm clock, find it a mate.

Moran is chief executive of modu, an Israeli company that has created a tiny cell phone with a built-in flash memory music player that is highly modular. When you want to change the look and feel of the device, you simply slide it into another device. It's like adding a memory chip card, except it changes the identity of the new device. With it, you can change your electronic gear in chameleon fashion to suit your mood.

You can, for instance, take your little modu phone and slide it into a digital camera.

Wal-Mart Updates Growth Plans

New store growth remains part of the Wal-Mart Stores U.S. strategy and more emphasis will be placed on relocating and expanding existing discount stores to supercenters during the same time periods. Declines in capital spending at Wal-Mart Stores U.S. will be offset by increases at Wal-Mart International, resulting in worldwide spending of $14 to $15 billion in each of the next two years.

The Company provided the following projected details on its capital spending for all purposes:

The Company expects to add 48 to 49 million square feet globally, which is an increase of 6 percent in fiscal year 2008 over fiscal year 2007. During each of the following two fiscal years, Wal-Mart expects to increase square footage between 48 million and 52 million square feet, an increase of 5 to 6 percent.

Anne Frank given musical makeover

What will sell this show is its 13-year-old Cuban-born star Isabella Castillo, who shows great maturity and energy in the title role, portraying Anne Frank as sensitive and imaginative, but also as an essentially normal teenage girl.

She gawps at boys, rows with her mother and whispers excitedly to her sister about getting her first period.

The diary, which went on to become a historical treasure and sell 40 million copies, was often referred to by Anne as "Kitty". Here, Kitty is given a human face, in the form of an on-stage alter-ego played Basque actress Patricia Arizmendi.

Meanest thug

As a production device, it helps - we witness Anne's private hopes and fears, rants and desires. But again, if Anne Frank were to see this production, she might reasonably ask: "Who dressed Kitty?"

The human diary first appears in a red chiffon dress with a fat sequinned belt and big hair - much like Wonder Woman going to a black-tie event.
