Listen to this story on NPR's Day to Day. The Spot: A woman cavorts in her shower while applying Dove Cream Oil moisturizer. (Click here to watch the spot.) This new spot from Dove hits on a couple of current advertising trends. First, it debuted during the Academy Awards telecast—increasingly, the Super Bowl of splashy ads for women. As Ad Age has noted, Oscars ads cost significantly less than Super Bowl ads: $1.7 million compared with $2.6 million for a 30-second spot this year. They reach a more heavily female audience (60 percent of Oscars viewers are women, while that figure drops to less than 50 percent for the football game). And while Super Bowl advertisers face the risk of a massive tune-out if the game grows lopsided, the biggest Oscar presentations are saved for the tail end of the broadcast, so viewers generally stick around.
S.C. school-bus incidents | Driving a busload of stress
Two 16-year-old boys sexually assault a 14-year-old girl on a Berkeley County school bus after paying the driver $10 to look the other way. A once-beloved Gilbert school-bus driver sits in prison after confessing to sexually abusing girls as young as 7 on his bus. Such stories grab the headlines and paint a grim picture of the trek that more than 300,000 S.C. children take twice a day on a school bus. But the reality is the vast majority of them arrive at school and back home again safe and sound. Local schools lean heavily on statewide standards for training, hiring and checking the backgrounds of school-bus drivers to make sure children get to school safely. But bus drivers and the people who work with them will tell you that, day in and day out, school-bus safety often comes down to basic communication and defusing problems before they get out of hand.

Delaware gets grant for patrol cameras
DELHI _ The Delaware County Sheriff's Department will use $44,600 in state grants to equip patrol cars with digital video cameras, Sheriff Thomas Mills said Wednesday. "I am pleased to announce our acceptance of a grant for $19,600, from the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services, under the guidelines of the state Homeland Security program as well as a $25,000 grant sanctioned by Senator John Bonacic in the state budget," Mills said. Mills said he hopes to have the cameras installed and operational in about a month. He said there are eight or nine cars to be equipped. "We are waiting so the computers and the cameras can be installed at the same time to save money," Mills said. The computers will be used to run data, write accident reports and issue traffic tickets, Mills said.
Medical insurers Aetna, Cigna agree to pay for online doctor visits
Consulting your family physician is finally moving into the 21st century and out of the doctor's office. Since the dawn of e-mail, patients have been pleading for more doctors to offer medical advice online. No traffic jams, no long waits, no germ-infested offices. There was always one major roadblock: Many health insurers wouldn't pay for it. Until now. In recent weeks, Aetna Inc., the nation's largest insurer, and Cigna Corp. have agreed to reimburse doctors for online visits. Other large insurers are expected to follow, experts say. These new online services, which typically cost the same as a regular office visit, are aimed primarily at those who already have a doctor. The virtual visits are considered best for follow-up consultations and treatment for minor ailments such as colds and sore throats.
