He had a lot of attitude and not enough game preparation for a second-year player. All that did was land him on the Giants bench for their 1997 postseason showing. These days, the 33-year-old Toomer has given up on acting his NFL age. He's playing with far too much elusiveness and breakaway speed for a 12th-year elder coming off major knee surgery. That has him playing a lead role in his team's current joyride to Sunday's NFC Championship Game, where they will play the Packers at Lambeau Field. "I guess when I was younger, I didn't really appreciate what was going on," Toomer said. "The finality of the playoffs is something that you don't really understand as a young player. "Once you lose a couple playoff games, you're like, 'Oh, wow, this is serious.' " Toomer got his first taste of postseason disappointment at, of all places, De La Salle High in Concord.

For some, the application is a welcome change. Until recently, most video has been shot using camcorders that store high-quality video on MiniDV tape, but those tapes are piling up, unedited, because of the time it takes to import and fine tune the footage. iMovie '08 is designed to make video editing simple and fast. For people who've used iMovie in its previous iterations, this new version may be especially frustrating.
16th Annual Regional Meeting Of Amateur Astronomers
The Cleveland County Astronomical Society will host the 16th annual Regional Meeting of Amateur Astronomers Saturday, January 26th at the Ritch Banquet Hall, in the Dover Campus Center at Gardner-Webb University. This free event opens at 8:00 AM with program beginning at 10:00 and ending at 5:00 PM. Featured will be speakers, astrophotography displays and contest, swap tables, equipment vendors, prize drawings, fellowship with amateur astronomers from the region, and a chance to find out about local events and facilities. The program this year will feature three speakers including Hap Griffin. When he is not at his observatory or modifying cameras for hydrogen-alpha usage, he is the Vice-President for Engineering at South Carolina Educational Television and Radio. He has a degree in Electrical Engineering and is a registered practicing Professional Engineer.

For some in the advertising industry, the recent writer's strike shined a new light on cinema opportunities.
Ad-buying behemoth MediaVest, whose client roster includes Wal-Mart Stores Inc., Kraft Foods Inc. and Procter & Gamble Co., began talks last month with leading cinema ad companies Screenvision and National CineMedia LLC about transferring more than $100 million of prime-time ads from television to the movie screen.
"Even without the writer's strike, should that not have happened, we'd still be talking to our clients about looking at their current communications mix," said Norm Chait, MediaVest's senior vice president and director of out-of-home investment and activation.

Google's aspirations to gain a foothold on the small screen hardly stop there, with the search engine showing off its Android mobile phone system in Barcelona this week. Perhaps this explains why Microsoft wants to buy Yahoo!, which runs searches on a few mobiles, although one could say the $42 billion (£21 billion) might be better spent pursuing RIM or a mobile maker. All of which leads back, not all that obviously, to GCap Media, the home of Classic FM. Why bother to get up from the sofa to turn on that expensive, retro-styled DAB radio to listen to Birdsong when it would be a lot easier to press a Classic FM buttton on an iPhone? Internet transmission uses global standards while DAB is confined largely to one country, which British media executives and policymakers arrogantly believed would be followed by a grateful world.
