Hip-Hop Rumors: The KKK Planning To Kill Obama? BET's R...
Hip-Hop artist David Banner sent 80 children from the Stewpot Neighborhood Children's program in Jackson, Mississippi on an all expense paid trip to Six Flags over Georgia today (July 20). The rapper provided a bus, food, t-shirts and admission to the park on the annual excursion, which he has been sponsoring since 2005, with the intention of exposing the youth to different environments. “The children that we serve at Stewpot would not normally be able to go on an 'out of town' trip," said Stewpot Community Services Counselor, Sherry Adams. "Most of the kids in the community have not been out of Mississippi. Because of Banner's love for our community, he makes it possible for our kids to travel outside of Mississippi, on a fun and exciting summer trip every year.
Samsung unveils Soul dynamic-touch phone
Preempting the Mobile World Congress show, Samsung on Friday revealed the Soul, its new flagship slider phone. Serving as the final bow for the Ultra Edition, it blends in a split-screen, context-sensitive touch control system similar to that of the LG Venus: rather than rely on fixed buttons or an entire front touch surface, the Soul includes a small touchscreen area whose buttons change depending on the immediate context for the screen above. When playing music, track controls replace normal commands, Samsung says in an example. The Soul is also the first Samsung handset to sport a themed UI where the entire look and sound can be replaced at once. The handset is both very camera- and data-focused. A 5-megapixel camera is accompanied by a high-power LED flash as well as by face detection and image stabilization -- all features normally reserved for some of the better dedicated cameras, the company says.
Warren theaters begin to go digital
The move should increase movie quality for viewers while equipping Warren's theaters for the industry's evolution into live events. "There's no question that movies are going to remain 80 to 90 percent of our business," Warren said. "But the fact is the business is changing. There's 3-D productions like 'Beowulf' and Hannah Montana, live concerts like U2, opera and perhaps even live sporting events." Live events are a marketing niche that theaters are actively pursuing, said Patrick Corcoran, director of media and research for the National Association of Theater Owners. "Previously, live events and the networking necessary to distribute them didn't exist," he said. "Now, during the week when traffic isn't as heavy, operators will be able to bring in more niche, targeted programming like local sports, local and regional concerts." Already, live concerts and some opera performances are being simulcast into digital theaters around the country, Corcoran said.
Amazing Miniaturized 'SIDECAR' Drives Webb Telescope's Signal
This image of star forming regions in Orion and S-140 was taken with the Univ. Hawaii's 2.2 meter telescope and processed with four SIDECAR microprocessors. Credit: UHIA, D. Hall, K.W. Hodapp, C. Aspin > Larger image Many technologies have become so advanced that they've been miniaturized to take up less space and weigh less. That's what happened to detector controls and data conversion electronics on the James Webb Space Telescope being built by Northrop Grumman. The electronics will convert analog signals to digital signals and provide better images to Earth. These components, called a "SIDECAR" have been miniaturized from a volume of about one cubic meter (35.3 cubic feet) to a small integrated circuit. SIDECAR ASIC means "System for Image Digitization, Enhancement, Control And Retrieval Application Specific Integrated Circuit." This tiny advanced low-noise, low-power microprocessor-based control chip was designed by Teledyne Imaging Sensors, Thousand Oaks, Calif.
District 52 Republicans Vie to Replace Krusee
As four-time county party chair and 11-time Precinct 23 chair, he is arguably the established face of the county party machine. He was also a member of Krusee's freshman legislative staff and has stayed close ever since.
