McCain, who has railed against lobbyists and "special interests," found himself in the awkward position of defending a lobbyist. A former adviser to President Clinton defended McCain. The Times story could turn out to be a fundraising boon for McCain. Ed Koch doesn't think Clinton would accept a spot as Obama's No. 2 because "she's past childbearing age; she's too old." Clinton's campaign spending, including nearly $100,000 for groceries in Iowa, has some donors concerned. Clinton still mantains a slight edge over Obama Ohio, but the Texas race is deadlocked. Obama's campaign accused a pro-Clinton 527 of being engaged in "runaway illegal" activites. The New York Senate and Assembly employ more people than any other state Legislature in the nation.
