| Shia LaBeouf Loves Life In 'Disturbia'
Sure, former Disney Channel actor Shia LaBeouf isn't making the covers of teen magazines pushing a new bubblegum pop album, but it suits the former "Even Stevens" star just fine. In fact, the star of the new suspense thriller "Disturbia" couldn't think of a more disturbing scenario. "I'm fortunate, especially after the Disney Channel thing. You can get locked into a 'High School Musical' route, put an album out -- it just really was never my thing," LaBeouf said in a recent @ The Movies interview. "I don't know if I really ever fit in there. I'm sort of the anomaly at that place. It's very one-note." LaBeouf, whose starred in such films as "Holes," "I, Robot," "The Greatest Game Ever Played" and "Bobby" since his "Even Stevens" days, is hardly biting the hand that fed him from 1999 through 2003.
FEATURE - Olympics - World champion Rawlinson in juggling act
The 25-year-old juggles motherhood with her job of running round in circles and skimming the top of hurdles and she is one of the favourites to win gold at the Beijing Olympics. Rawlinson was strongly fancied to win in Athens four years ago before a knee injury ruined her chances. She underwent surgery a week before the Games and could manage only fifth in the final, competing under her maiden name Pittman. As in her chosen profession, her life has gone full circle since then. She married British hurdler Chris Rawlinson in 2006 and the couple had a son later that year. Marriage and motherhood did nothing to dampen her enthusiasm for athletics and her determination to win Olympic gold. She captured her second world title at Osaka last year and says she is determined to make amends for the disappointment of Athens when she lines up on the blocks at Beijing in August.
NYT: Veterans Are Murderers on 'Downward Spiral'
This 9 page (on the web) report gives us case after case and lots of generalities, such as... "Everything is multicausational, of course," Dr. Lifton continued. “But combat, especially in a counterinsurgency war, is such a powerful experience that to discount it would be artificial." An obvious statement, but not a conclusive one by any means. This piece is filled with these sorts of comments alongside the specific stories of returning vets who did have breakdowns that led to murder. But the Times wants to make it seem as if our vets are universally a troubled lot. But these killings provide a kind of echo sounding for the profound depths to which some veterans have fallen, whether at the bottom of a downward spiral or in a sudden burst of violence.
