| Panasonic's High-Value High-Def TV
As king of the plasma TV market, Panasonic has plenty to prove these days. Faced with an onslaught of competition from the rival LCD (liquid-crystal display) camp, Panasonic executives have been working hard to dispel any claims their products are somehow inferior to the best LCD offerings. I find little reason to argue with them after reviewing the company's recently released 50PZ77U model. The 50-in. plasma offers full high-definition 1080 progressive resolution, and does an impressive all-around job of producing rich, colorful imagery from both HD and standard-definition programming. Better yet, the all-black set is one of the best deals on the market right now, selling for about $2,000 through online merchants—up to $1,000 less than many LCD sets of the same screen size and HD resolution.
Keep track of lost or stolen devices with Gadget Trak
PORTLAND, Ore. - iPod's, MP3s and GPS devices were all hot holiday gifts and if you got one, you might want to start thinking about how to protect it. There is some new technology out there that can help - it's called Gadget Trak. Whether your gadget is lost or stolen, this new computer software, developed right here in Portland, promises to help find it. Here's how it works - you log on to the company's Web site, download the software onto your gadget, register and you're ready to go. When your iPod, new digital camera or other device is lost or stolen, you log on to your account and activate tracking. The next time your device is connected to a computer, the software will communicate all sorts of information back to the company - everything from IP addresses to user names and location is tracked. If it is a laptop that was stolen, the software can even activate the computer's camera to record audio and video of whoever is using it. You can even customize a message for that person. The software may be really useful for people who store a lot of important information on their devices. "It's not just your phone, it's your life. If you really think about it, you have your photos, your contact information, people can steal your identity from the information on these things," said Gadget Trak Founder Ken Westin. You can use the software on almost anything that connects to a computer. However, if you want to track a laptop, the software only works with Macs right now. Gadget Trak costs anywhere from $12 to $20 a year depending on how many devices you have registered. If you own a PC, there are plenty of other options out there as well. .
Brady's inquisitors direct - and veiled
GLENDALE, Ariz. - Before offering himself up for public consumption in the annual rite of madness known as Super Bowl Media Day, Patriots quarterback Tom Brady playfully turned the tables on the ravenous horde lying in wait for him at University of Phoenix Stadium. Hounded by paparazzi since the day after the AFC Championship, when he showed up at the New York apartment of supermodel girlfriend Gisele Bundchen with flowers in hand and a walking cast on his right foot, Brady for a moment joined ranks with the camera-toting stalkers. "I gotta do this," Brady said, producing a small digital camera and snapping a photograph of the horde. "I'm not going to remember this one day." The first question, naturally, was about Brady's ankle. It came from the NFL Network's Deion Sanders, whom Brady photographed and addressed as "Prime." "My ankle feels good.
Director: Eminem Almost Leapt Into 'Jumper' Lead Role
As it turns out, the famed white rapper was lined up to play the lead role in the new action film, "Jumper," director Doug Liman revealed to MTVNews.com. "We did have a meeting. We did have conversations with Eminem," the writer/director said about the rapper, whose real name is Marshall Mathers. Eminem became a surprise box office star in 2002 in the autobiographical "8 Mile." Apparently, after being bitten by the acting bug, he spent some time looking for his next project when the "Jumper" script reportedly caught his eye in early 2006. At that same time, Liman (who just a few months earlier had been tapped to direct "Jumper") entered talks about bringing Eminem on board to star as the teleporting David Rice. "[The idea to meet with the rapper] was sort of coming from the producer and [Eminem's] manager," Liman told MTVNews.com.
